Please note: This photography tour is classified as 'non strenuous' to 'mildly strenuous'.
Bryce: The trails are easy but there is a short, sharp ascent back to the canyon rim.
Zion: We take specific easy trails that ascend short heights, and others that ascend steeply for those that wish to go further [strenuous]. There are also plenty of canyon floor-based images for those less athletic.
Of course, you choose how far you want to go, plus most of the trip is non-strenuous.

See Red Rock Country

PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR OVERVIEW: Zion is towering peaks, and Virgin River, while Bryce is between a rock and a soft place in that it’s multiple spire formations are a result of rock that falls between sand and sandstone in it’s composition. Join me in these colorful Utah hideaways in autumn for five days of photography along easy trails, and at selected viewpoints based upon time of day, and angle of light. This Utah photography tour also includes Red Canyon, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, and Zion's Kolob Canyon etcetera.

INCREASING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS: There isn’t a straightforward way to describe everything you will learn on one of our photography tours in just a few words, but I'll give it a try . . . I instruct, encourage, nurture, coach, nudge, help and guide clients etcetera, all day and every day.  This includes one-on-ones and 'collective instruction', i.e. advice given to the whole group at each photo stop. Subjects and techniques discussed and demonstrated are composition strength, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, how aperture choice influences depth of field, lens choice, filter use, long exposure effects, deliberate blur, macro and so on. I also encourage you to 'see' an image when the opportunity presents itself, i.e. to be on the lookout for those less obvious shots that are no less stunning. Lastly, I conduct image critiques both on location - digital camera screens are ideal for this - and via the use of laptops. PhotoShop sessions are also included as time permits. For more details regarding what you'll learn go here.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAY 1  |  To Springdale, ZION National Park
It is important that all participants arrive prior to day 1 so as to facilitate additional photography in Zion's Kolob Canyon. We'll depart north in the late morning for Kolob Canyon, where the Finger Canyons will be side-lit and consequently will polarize beautifully as we shoot from several vantage points. On to Springdale for hotel check-in and a short break, then on out for the late light. We'll shoot the classic Virgin River and Watchman Peak composition and then return to Springdale for a combined digital slide orientation and dinner.
SPRINGDALE, 1 night

DAYS 2 + 3  |  BRYCE CANYON National Park
First light on peaks such as Towers of the Virgin, East and West temples, plus Bridge Mountain and more before returning to Springdale for breakfast. We'll then head for Bryce Canyon shooting as we go along Zion Park Boulevard. Checkerboard Mesa plus a variety of 'swirling rock' patterns will be on the 'menu' this morning . . . a great opportunity for some creative macro shots, and perhaps even some Big Horn Sheep. Red Canyon is on the approach to Bryce, and is very photogenic.  We'll check-in to our hotel be on the Bryce Canyon rim at sunset for side lighting on the colorful pinnacles.
At dawn on Day 3 we'll be back on the Bryce Canyon rim, then following breakfast we'll venture into the canyon for slow ambles among the pinnacles and for many, many absorbing images. We'll have some free time today, then as sunset nears we'll be on the canyon rim for the late light.
Near BRYCE NATIONAL PARK, 2 nights

DAYS 4 + 5  |  ZION National Park
Sunrise one last time on the Bryce Canyon rim, then off in the direction of Zion National Park. We'll shoot in Red Canyon once more, and detour to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.  Photography in upper Zion, then the late light in lower Zion national Park.
On day 5 we'll be out shooting early once more, then spend much of the day in Zion canyon utilizing the shuttle service along the Floor Of The Valley Road to access the Court of the Patriarchs, the Virgin River, the Temple of Sinawava, Emerald Pools, Weeping Wall, and much, much more. There are several easy walks, and others that go to 'great heights' should you wish to break off from the group for a while.
SPRINGDALE, 2 nights

DAY 6  |  Flights Home
After early light photography and breakfast, you'll be at the St. George airport in good time for your flight. Please arrange your departing flight for 12:30 pm onwards.
