Please note: This photo workshop is classified as 'mildly strenuous' to 'moderately strenuous'.

PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR OVERVIEW: Burgundy is not just about wine . . . OK, I've got that out of the way except to say that the wine agrees with my palate.  No, it's also about ancient villages merging with today's inhabitants to make Burgundy, the Bourgogne in French, what it is in this the 21st century. Burgundy's Côte-d'Or region is the focus of our photography tour and will include the Commarin Chateau, Chateauneuf, Semur, Mont-St-Jean, Flavigny - think of the movie Chocolat - Noyers, Frolois, Chatel-Gerard, Fain-Les-Moutiers, Vitteaux, Salmaise, the chateau at Posanges, Dijon old town and Fontenay Abbey etcetera.

INCREASING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS: There isn’t a straightforward way to describe everything you will learn on one of our photography tours in just a few words, but I'll give it a try . . . I instruct, encourage, nurture, coach, nudge, help and guide clients etcetera, all day and every day.  This includes one-on-ones and 'collective instruction', i.e. advice given to the whole group at each photo stop. Subjects and techniques discussed and demonstrated are composition strength, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, how aperture choice influences depth of field, lens choice, filter use, long exposure effects, deliberate blur, macro and so on. I also encourage you to 'see' an image when the opportunity presents itself, i.e. to be on the lookout for those less obvious shots that are no less stunning. Lastly, I conduct image critiques both on location - digital camera screens are ideal for this - and via the use of laptops. PhotoShop sessions are also included as time permits. For more details regarding what you'll learn go here.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAYS 1, 2, 3 and 4  |  BURGUNDY
We'll gather at noon and during lunch John will present a digital orientation of the photography highlights of the next few days. We'll then head eastwards and begin our exploration of Burgundy in the Commarin district. We will eventually be on tiny back lanes exploring the likes of
Le Palloux, Semarey, and the Commarin Chateau. Nearby is the grandly situated Chateauneuf [new castle], a quaint walled town and chateau with much to offer in the way of photography . . . not unlike most other villages in Burgundy. We'll shoot the Burgundy canal view of the chateau prior to heading on to Semur for our four night stay via the beautifully situated Mont-St-Jean.
On days 2, 3 and 4 we'll shoot early and late, and continue to photograph the best of Burgundy's Côte-d'Or. Included will be Flavigny - think of the movie Chocolat - famed for it's licorice production. Noyers is a wonderful old town to photograph, as are Chatel-Gerard, Fain-Les-Moutiers, Vitteaux, Salmaise, Frolois, St-Seine, our home town of Semur, the chateau at Posanges, Fontenay Abbey and many others. In addition to all of the above, while we are exploring villages on foot there will be plenty old doors, windows, flowers, insects, and still life on the run subject matter to photograph. Then finally, it's also about the rural life we see and photograph between the villages such as hillside vineyards being tended by families, the distant views of red-roofed villages, hedgerows of wildflowers, and hopefully herds of Charolais cows being herded down a picturesque country lane.
Near SEMUR, 4 nights

DAY 5  |  To DIJON
More early light then back for breakfast. We never head straight to the airport on our last full day, and will continue exploring Burgundy back lanes and villages via a different route to whence we came on day one as we make our way to Dijon. After hotel check-in we'll explore Dijon's medieval old town both sides of dinner to close the trip.
Near DIJON airport, 1 night

DAY 6  |  Flights home
Departing flights can be arranged for any time this morning. USA residents will arrive home on the same calendar day.
Free transport is available to Marseille if you wish to participate in our Provence photography tour.
