Please note: This photography tour is classified as 'mildly strenuous' to 'strenuous', as the coastal walks vary from easy to difficult. However, if need be one can get in the best shots in the vicinity of of each village, and then take a boat or train to the next village and meet the group there. All boat and train transport is included in the trip cost.

Of course, you get to choose how far you want to go, plus most of the trip is moderately strenuous!

OVERVIEW: The Liguria section of the Italian Riviera includes the Mediterranean coastal villages of Portofino, and the 'five lands' of Cinque Terre namely Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Each is an extremely photogenic village sitting on coastal cliffs or clinging to rocky harbors, and their position off the beaten track adds to the rustic and timeless impression they will have on you and your photography. Also ancient Lucca, the classic Florence skyline image, and Ponte Vecchio at river level.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAYS 1, 2, 3 and 4  |  CINQUE TERRE
After your arrival into Genoa airport we'll follow the Mediterranean coastline and make a short detour to Portofino for a 'Cinque Terre warm-up'. It is a 'richer' spot than it's Cinque Terre neighbors to the south, but no less photogenic and an ideal place to sharpen your photography skills. On south to Cinque Terre National Park and our four night home in Monterosso al Mare. Free time, dinner, and the late light on the Mediterranean shot from around Monterosso al Mare harbor.
On days 2, 3 and 4 we'll explore the 'five lands' of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore that collectively gave their name to Cinque Terre. Each is a colorful, characterful village that in some cases literally 'tumble down' to the rocky but picturesque harbors. Each village is linked by a coastal path which we'll explore each day taking as much time as you need. The overviews of each village are spectacular, and at street level they offer a potpourri of photogenic nooks and crannies to be explored. The paths offer coastal and rocky vistas with breaking waves, plus the symmetry of quaint vineyards on the steep slopes that appear to defy gravity. The locals who nurture the vines have found a number ways to cope with the terrain, and are themselves a photo op. We'll be out shooting early and late, and also take midday breaks at our air-conditioned hotel.
CINQUE TERRE, 4 nights

DAY 5  |  To LUCCA and FLORENCE
We'll finish our Cinque Terre photography early on day 5, and then make our way toward Florence. We'll follow the coastline and cut inland into northern Tuscany and spend some extended time in the medieval walled city of Lucca. We'll explore the plazas of Piazza Anfiteatro and Piazza Napoleone, along with the Church of San Michele in Foro on the Piazza San Michele, St Martin's Cathedral on the piazza of the same name [San Michele], and the Torre Guinigi [Guinigi tower] topped with several trees!
Lastly, we'll shoot the classic Ponte Vecchio and Florence skyline shot from Piazza Michelangelo before heading to our accommodations near Ponte Vecchio bridge. We'll be out in the evening light for this classic image.
Central FLORENCE, 1 night

DAY 6  |  Flights home
Departing flights can be arranged for any time this morning. USA residents will arrive home on the same calendar day. Florence is also the starting point of the Tuscany photography tour the same day.
