GATEWAY CITY: El Paso, Texas [ELP] | ARRIVAL WINDOW: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Go to
Orbitz for the average roundtrip air-fare from your city

OUTLINE:  Canyons, waterfalls, rivers, wildlife, wildflowers, indigenous Tarahumara Indian tribe, remote villages, missions and the Chihuahua al Pacifico Railroad.

Mexico’s Copper Canyon [Barranca del Cobre] is actually a series of spectacular canyons and ravines, and the entire complex is almost four times larger than the Grand Canyon in the United States, plus it's 280 feet deeper. You’ll also find that the photography is far more enriching and varied too. One not to miss in this lifetime.

OVERSEAS TRAVEL
<> It is recommended, but not imperative, that you arrive a day early to be fresh and on time for the trip!
<> Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish.
<> A late flight arrival on day 1 of the trip might entail you having to find your own way to the first hotel, if not close to the airport.
<> Please note that the ending date of the trip is the day of your departure flight. Please arrange your flights accordingly.

Clients from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australasia should depart their home country a day or two prior to Day 1, so that the commencement of this photography tour isn't missed.

DAY 1  |  To EL PASO, TEXAS
I’ll meet your late afternoon flight into El Paso, and following dinner you’ll have the option of some dusk photography if you’re up to it.
EL PASO, 1 night

DAY 2
  |  To CHIHUAHUA
We cross the Rio Grande into Mexico this morning, and following some time in Ciudad Juarez on the border, we’ll go directly south via Ahumada, El Sueco and the mining region of El Sauz while pausing for images at every opportunity. On to Chihuahua for the night where among the architectural delights is the pink-stoned baroque cathedral dating to 1826 [started in 1724].
CHIHUAHUA, 1 night

DAYS 3, 4, 5, and 6  |  COPPER CANYON
We’ll work our way - photographically as usual – towards the Copper Canyon region and arrive on the fringes by early afternoon. We’ll have the remainder of today, plus days 4, 5, 6 and most of day 7 to explore this rugged and spectacular region. We’ll be based in Creel for 4 nights which is central to many highlights which include the canyon-cradled Mayo, Conchos, Oteros, Urique and Cusaráre Rivers: Basaseáchi and Cerocahui Falls: the Cerocahui Jesuit Mission dating from 1681: the Chihuahua al Pacifico Railroad which took 90 years to build: the indigenous and colorful Tarahumara Indian tribe: Divisadero: Cusaráre: wildlife such as Deer: plus a day-trip to the ‘tropical’ Batopilas which lies in the bottom of a canyon in lush surroundings while the Sierra Madre mountains tower overhead. Our stay in Creel will also include trips to the most spectacular spots for the early light.
CREEL, 4 nights

DAY 7
  |  To CHIHUAHUA
We’ll ‘mop-up’ photographically around Copper Canyon and it’s environs during the day as we make our way steadily back to Chihuahua for a one-night stay. Late-light photography is planned at the remnants of Chihuahua’s 1864 colonial aqueduct with it’s 50 foot arches.
CHIHUAHUA, 1 night

DAY 8
  |  To EL PASO

One last look at Chihuahua’s highlights this morning prior to going directly north to the United States border. We’ll make more photography stops as we go, but an afternoon highlight will be a short detour for another photo-op at the El Sauzal petrified forest. The trees there were covered by sand and turned to ‘stone’ via the action of salt. Supper in El Paso tonight.
EL PASO, 1 night

DAY 9  |  FLIGHTS HOME
Morning flights home from the nearby El Paso airport.
