PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR OVERVIEW: Travel Images' Patagonian photography tour/workshop comprises of the best of Buenos Aires during stays at the beginning and end of the trip, which will include the colorful La Boca district and more.  We then jet off into the depths of Argentina and Chile for the spectacular mountain pinnacles of Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy, plus the Perito Moreno Glacier, which all lie within the boundaries of Los Glaciares [The Glaciers] National Park.  Then on south into Chile and specifically Torres del Paine National Park.  Our stay there will include shots of Gauchos, abundant wildlife including Guanacos, Foxes, Rheas, and Condors soaring overhead; plus some of the most spectacular peaks imaginable at both sunrise and sunset. A boat trip out to Gray Glacier is included, as are a variety of waterfalls and much more.  Please follow the photo gallery link above for a selection of sample images.

INCREASING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS: There isn’t a straightforward way to describe everything you will learn on one of our photography tours in just a few words, but I'll give it a try . . . I instruct, encourage, nurture, coach, nudge, help and guide clients etcetera, all day and every day.  This includes one-on-ones and 'collective instruction', i.e. advice given to the whole group at each photo stop. Subjects and techniques discussed and demonstrated are composition strength, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, how aperture choice influences depth of field, lens choice, filter use, long exposure effects, deliberate blur, macro and so on. I also encourage you to 'see' an image when the opportunity presents itself, i.e. to be on the lookout for those less obvious shots that are no less stunning. Lastly, I conduct image critiques both on location - digital camera screens are ideal for this - and via the use of laptops. PhotoShop sessions are also included as time permits. For more details regarding what you'll learn go here.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAY 1  |  BUENOS AIRES, Argentina
Arriving a day early is essential for this particular trip as we will have a morning start for our photo exploration Buenos Aires. We'll cover the most photogenic spots of the city from iconic images to the  traditional. Included will be the Metropolitan Cathedral facing the Plaza de Mayo; colorful La Boca where we will shoot the imposing 'Bombonera' and Caminito; the Puerto Madero waterfront; and the exclusive quarter of Recoleta and the unusual cemetery which is a 'city within a city' and the final resting place of Eva Peron [Evita].
BUENOS AIRES, 1 night

DAYS 2, 3 and 4  |  MOUNT FITZ ROY in Los GLACIARES national park, Argentina
We'll take a morning flight to El Calafate, then we’ll head for El Chalten via stops on the shores Lago Viedma, plus sheep ranches and our first views of the magnificent Mount Fitz Roy as we approach El Chalten. The village places us in position to photograph the Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre granite peaks in Los Glaciares National Park at dawn each morning. Several vantage points of this impressive mountain range will be explored, some requiring short hikes, with Centinela Viewpoint among them. Also scheduled are Chorrillo del Salto [waterfall], Lago [lake] Viedma, Lago del Desierto, Las Vueltas River Canyon and more. This is a region in which one should often look skywards for the sight of a soaring Condor.
EL CHALTEN, 3 nights

DAYS 5 and 6  |  PERITO MORENO GLACIER in Los GLACIARES national park, Argentina
More dawn light on Mount Fitzroy, then a road trip to El Calafate with photography along the way.  After a short break we'll head west a few short miles and shoot ranch scenes and Lago Argentino which we'll also shoot in the late light.  After sunrise shooting and breakfast on day 3 we'll go directly to the western end of Lago Argentino, where 80km from El Calafate, Perito Moreno Glacier lies with its imposing walls of aqua blue ice up to 60 meters high. There is a variety of viewpoints from which to photograph the glacier and you can include foregrounds such the red Fire-bush in the foreground in some of your images. During our time at the glacier you'll hear and see the constant breaking and collapsing of ice floes, and you will challenged to capture these as they happen. S'easy, honest!  Back to El Calafate for some free time and evening light images on the shores of Lago Argentino.
EL CALAFATE, 2 nights

DAYS 7, 8, 9 and 10  |  TORRES del PAINE, Chile
After another sunrise shoot and breakfast we'll be on the road to Chile's 450,000 acre Torres del Paine National Park. We shoot serendipitous subjects blessed with light as we travel and will cross into Chile at Cerro Castillo.  While in the park for five nights we'll photograph the stunning Torres del Paine peaks both early and late from various viewpoints. We'll make sunrise excursions each morning for the best possible light on the Torres del Paine massifs. Besides these magnificent peaks, other highlights will include Salto Grande Rio Paine [waterfall], Lago Nordenskjold, Lago Pehoe, and a boat trip to the top of Lago Grey to photograph Gray Glacier.  From a wildlife perspective you can expect photograph Guanacos, Foxes, Rheas, Upland Geese, Flamingos, the hawk Caracara, plus Condors riding the air currents sweeping down from the Andean mountain slopes.
TORRES del PAINE National Park, 4 nights

DAY 11  |  Return to EL CALAFATE, Argentina
We'll be shooting as much as possible around Torres del Paine National Park before heading to El Calafate for our flights home in the late afternoon. As usual, we'll making multiple stops both around the park and along our way.
BUENOS AIRES, 1 night

DAY 12  |  BUENOS AIRES and flights home
We'll explore more of Buenos Aires for much of the day prior to taking our flights homewards from Buenos Aires airport in the evening.  Please ensure that your Buenos Aires departure is not before 6 p.m.
