Please note: This photography tour
is classified as 'mildly strenuous' to 'strenuous'.
Horseshoe Bend image: Moderately strenuous
Delicate Arch image:
Strenuous
Landscape Arch image: Mildly
strenuous
Turret Arch image: Short
strenuous scramble at the end of a
mildly
strenuous walk.
Mesa Arch image:
Mildly
strenuous
Bryce: The trails are easy but there is a short, sharp
ascent back to the canyon rim.
Zion: There are well-paved
trails that ascend short heights, and others that ascend steeply for
those that wish to go further [strenuous]. There are also plenty of
canyon floor-based images for those less athletic.
Of course, you get to choose how far
you want to go, plus most of the trip is non-strenuous! |

OVERVIEW:
The red rock of Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, Monument Valley,
Antelope Canyon, plus Bryce and Zion national parks.
This itinerary combines the highlights in Arizona and Utah’s red-rock country
and includes stunning formations such as towering
monoliths, canyons, spectacular overviews and more.
This is some of the best photography the USA
has to offer during the
'off-season', and it is hoped that there is a light
dusting of snow contrasting the red rock at each
location.
Please note that roads are kept open at each
location but some trails may have limited access
because of local snowfall.
OVERSEAS TRAVEL
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o Please note that the last day of the trip above, is the day you fly home. Please arrange your flights accordingly.
Clients from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australasia should depart their home country a day or two prior to Day 1, so that the commencement of this photography tour isn't missed.
DAYS 1, 2 + 3
| CANYONLANDS and ARCHES National Parks
I'll meet your
midday flight into Grand Junction, Colorado, and
following lunch and a 'digital orientation'
we'll head for Moab via the Colorado National Monument.
We'll then shoot along the
Colorado River and detour
into Castle Valley for 'Monument Valleyesque' mesas.
Onto Moab for a late light visit to
Arches National Park if time permits.
At dawn on Day 2 we'll be in Arches National Park,
then for two days we’ll
photo-explore the highlights of both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Early and late light is
essential, and the short hike for the last
light on Delicate Arch will be most worthwhile. Dawn at
Mesa Arch in Canyonlands is also outstanding and you'll
shoot the classic sunrise image there too.
MOAB, 3
nights
DAYS
4 + 5 | MONUMENT VALLEY
We’ll
‘mop-up’ around Moab photographically speaking this
morning, and then depart toward Monument Valley. On
south via Wilson Arch, and the
'Goosenecks' of San Juan State Park, and lastly,
the
classic highway and Monument Valley scene as the light
fades.
On Day 5 our photography will commence at dawn
with the
classic Mittens view. For the remainder of the day you will be
guided around Monument Valley by a local Navajo and
myself, and record many classic scenes taking our time
get the very best from each situation.
Near MONUMENT VALLEY, 2 nights
DAY 6 | ANTELOPE CANYON and LAKE POWELL
We'll be at the Mittens once more as they are touched by the first
light, then following breakfast
we'll make our way to Page via Antelope Canyon. We'll
take a short 4-wheel-drive to the legendary canyon, and
once there, and armed with a tripod, you'll enjoy
creating some classic ‘rippling rock’ compositions.
Throughout our time in the colorful canyon the light and
soft shadows will caress the walls and create
ever-changing photo challenges. On to Page, and
the late light on Lake Powell, and Lone Rock. PAGE, 1
night
DAY 7 |
BRYCE CANYON National Park
On Day 7 we'll frame the
classic Horseshoe Bend image at dawn, and shoot around
Wahweap Bay on Lake Powell as we head for Bryce Canyon. Red
Canyon is very photogenic, and erm, red! We'll be on the Bryce Canyon rim at sunset for
side lighting on the colorful pinnacles.
Near
BRYCE NATIONAL PARK, 1 night
DAYS
8 + 9 | ZION National Park
On Day 3 we'll start the day back at the canyon rim, then following breakfast
we'll venture into the canyon, snow and ice permitting, for slow ambles among the pinnacles and many, many
absorbing images. We'll then set off
in the
direction of Zion National Park and shoot in Red Canyon once more. Then as we
descend
Zion Park Boulevard
Checkerboard Mesa plus a variety of 'swirling rock' patterns will be
among our photography subjects . . this a great opportunity for some creative macro shots.
On Day 9 we'll capture the first light on peaks such as Towers of the Virgin, East and West temples, plus
Bridge Mountain and more before returning to Springdale for breakfast.
We'll then
spend much of the day in
Zion canyon utilizing the shuttle service along the Floor Of The Valley Road to
access the Court of the Patriarchs, the Virgin River, the Temple of Sinawava,
Emerald Pools, Weeping Wall, and much, much more. There are several trails that
'anyone' can do, and others that go to 'great heights' should you wish to break
off from the group for a while. being winter, access to the trails will be
dependent upon the amount of snowfall the canyon has had. Sunset will be the
last light on Watchman Peak.
SPRINGDALE, 2 nights
