OVERVIEW: This Tuscan odyssey will start and end near Florence and include many ancient hill towns such as Monteriggioni, Montalcino, Volterra, Pienza, Casole d'Elsa and Montepulciano etcetera. The photography will be a mixture of the ancient contrasting with the the modern in the form of bicycles, flowerpot-laden window ledges, and  narrow cobbled streets. We'll be out early and late and spend time at the notable medieval town of Siena, capital of the Siena province, and itself a hill town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The classic Florence skyline shot is also included in this photography tour.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAYS 1, 2, 3, AND 4  |  TUSCANY
After the group has gathered together we'll head into Florence for the classic skyline shot from Piazza Michelangelo, then south in the direction of Siena in the heart of Tuscany and Chianti country. Our first real taste of 'Toscana' will be during a photo-exploration of Monteriggioni, a hill town with walls that date to the 13th century. Photography here will be a mixture of ancient buildings contrasting with locals on cell phones, and and window frames with peeling paint. In terms of architecture, little has changed in Monteriggioni since the 16th century, consequently the walls and inner buildings are considered the best preserved examples of their kind in all of Italy. On to our hotel for a 4 night stay.
On days 2, 3 and 4 we'll rise early for the best possible light, take loop trips through the Tuscan countryside. We'll take early afternoon breaks, and be out to photograph the warm late light as it bathes the landscape each evening. As we move from one hill town to another we'll pause for subjects such as a field of Sunflowers or a classic line of Cypress trees leading to a hill farm. Among the hill towns we'll explore on foot will be Montalcino, San Gimignano, Pienza, Montecchiello, and Montepulciano plus rural classics that epitomize Tuscany. Siena is another notable hill town and we'll make at least one late in the day visit for dinner on the the Piazza del Campo that sits under the magnificent tower of Torrre del Mangia. Included will be twilight photography of floodlit centuries old buildings and so on.
Near MONTALCINO, 4 nights

DAY 5  |  To FLORENCE
More early light images prior to breakfast, and then we'll head north making long photography stops at Casole d'Elsa and Colle di Val d'Elsa. Lastly, we'll shoot the classic Ponte Vecchio in central Florence before heading to our accommodations near the airport to close the trip.
Near FLORENCE airport, 1 night

DAY 6  |  Flights home
Departing flights can be arranged for any time this morning. USA residents will arrive home on the same calendar day. I can provide free transport on to the Venice photography workshop.
