OUTLINE: Vermont's classic images such
as the Jenne Farm, Peacham, 'the Barnets', Stowe region,
covered bridges, barns, brilliant reds, oranges and golds and much
more.
The
New England region is photogenic during most of the year, but when
autumn brings along brilliant oranges, fiery reds and a touch of
morning fog, you ought to be here with your camera. In addition to our
'foliage foray' will be studies of covered bridges, classic farm
scenes, and all that comes naturally with this rustic, historic,
lush, golden and pleasant rolling land. Our trip takes in
what I consider as the 'essentials' of Vermont plus much more besides.
FALL COLOR NOTES
It's not possible to be at all the
prime spots during their peak color, but we have timed our trip
for the best possible combination. Those we 'miss' will still
yield striking images, as either the first color contrasts against
greens, or the last color is subtle set against the grays and
browns.
OVERSEAS TRAVEL
<> It is recommended, but not imperative, that you arrive a day early to be fresh and on time for the trip!
<> Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish.
<> A late flight arrival on day 1 of the trip might entail you having to find your own way to the first hotel, if not close to the airport.
<> Please note that the ending date of the trip is the day of your departure flight. Please arrange your flights accordingly.
DAY 1 | To WOODSTOCK, VERMONT
From your midday arrival into
Albany, New York, we will go east via some upper New York State
scenes into rural Vermont for photography in and around old Bennington
for the remainder of the afternoon. On to Woodstock for our
two-night stay. WOODSTOCK, 2 nights
DAY 2 |
The WOODSTOCK region
We’ll start at sunrise down
at
the New England
autumn classic,
Jenne Farm . . .
probably the most photographed farm in the region. While based
in Woodstock we'll explore a chunk of the Green Mountains
where'll you'll shoot a remote waterfall, colored leaves and
fungi. We'll also point our cameras at New England classics
including the Quechee Gorge, and Sleepy Hollow Farm, Woodstock
village and covered bridges etcetera. As we
go we’ll take time to compose small vignettes of New England
life, along with details in macro where they may lie.
DAYS 3 and 4 |
The PEACHAM region Following more sunrise photography and breakfast on Day 3, we’ll
head north to Barre via more autumn scenics including
farms and covered bridges near Tunbridge; Chelsea; and the Washington
rooftops with a backdrop of mountainside color. Barre is noted for it's
granite production, and fine examples can be seen around the
region and at Hope cemetery. Going east on day 4, we’ll take a day to explore the 'calendar'
villages of Peacham, East Orange, East Topsham and Hillside Acres Farm.
Throw in some lesser
known spots we've yet to see other photographers pointing lenses
at, and we know you'll be busy!
Near BARRE, 2 nights
DAY 5 |
To ALBANY via STOWE We'll make an early start for first light photography,
then head
northwestwards to the Stowe region. Following shots around Stowe
which will include the Gold Brook covered bridge, we'll take in Smuggler’s Notch pass
underneath Mt. Mansfield. We'll return via the Von Trapp family
lodge - 'Sound of Music' and all - before heading via more rural
Vermont scenes to Lake Champlain for the Charlotte-Essex ferry back
into New York state. Interstate 87 will put us back at our hotel
near Albany in good time for a relaxing dinner. Near ALBANY, 1
night
DAY 6 |
