We charter a private snowcoach to Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone each year.
This way we have a photography exclusive group. The north of the park is explored in our own van.

OVERVIEW: The people are gone, there is abundant and accessible wildlife, and all is peaceful in Yellowstone National Park as another winter takes it's course. This is a crisp, pristine and quiet time of year in the park. Ideal conditions in which to point your camera at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Mammoth Hot Springs, and the Lamar Valley, plus  wildlife including Elk, Bison, Big Horn Sheep, Pronghorn Antelope and Coyote. All this and the majestic Teton peaks plus PhotoShop sessions. Macro, landscape and wildlife.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAYS 1, 2 + 3  |  To YELLOWSTONE N. P., WYOMING
I'll meet your midday flight into Bozeman, Montana, take lunch together, and on route to Gardiner we'll pause to photograph the occasional Montana winter scene including the Old Yellowstone highway. After hotel check-in, light permitting, we'll explore the spots outside the Yellowstone National Park that wildlife frequents.
During our stay in Gardiner we'll explore the immediate Mammoth Hot Springs with geysers, steam, 'dreamy silhouettes' and wildlife as per the photo gallery link for this trip above. We will also use our own van to photograph along the Mammoth to Cooke City road at a leisurely pace. It's the only road open in the park and along which we'll be on the lookout for Elk, Bison, Antelope, Bighorn Sheep, Coyote and Deer etcetera, plus a variety of winter landscapes and more. I encourage informal evening critiques of work taken on the trip, and/or suggest you bring along some of your work to share with the group. We shoot at dawn, take in some free time when the opportunity permits, and eat after sunset.
GARDINER, 3 nights

DAYS 4 + 5  |  To WEST YELLOWSTONE
After an early shoot and breakfast we'll get on the road in the direction of West Yellowstone shooting all day as we go via Bozeman and Big Sky. On approach to West Yellowstone we'll detour to Quake Lake and the Henry's Lake mountains of Idaho, with the latter being the backdrop for some rustic cabin shots etcetera.
On Day 5 we'll have our own private snowcoach, and armed with sack lunches we'll shoot all day as we explore the Madison River, Gibbon Falls, Beryl Spring, the magnificent Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with a semi-frozen Lower Falls, Firehole Canyon, and the Fountain Paint Pots geyser area. Add wildlife, ice and snow macros and vistas for another great day of photography.
WEST YELLOWSTONE, 2 nights

DAY 6  |  To JACKSON, WYOMING
Breakfast and more Henry's Lake photography before heading south via Island Park, Ashton. We'll make a variety of stops and minor detours in Tetonia county for late light photography on the Idaho side of the Teton range. You'll find that the Teton peaks are almost as spectacular from the west side then on into Jackson, Wyoming for our 3 night stay in this old cowboy town.
JACKSON, 3 nights

DAYS 7 and 8  |  GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING
Winter sunrises on the Teton peaks are among America's best, and during our two days of photographing the park, we'll capture many a scene that would fit cozily into a breath mint commercial. We'll shoot at dawn at Oxbow Bend and the Snake River, plus Grand Teton park also has it's fair share of wildlife. Included in the trip cost is a sleigh ride to photograph a huge herd of Elk on the National Elk Refuge, where are previous trips we have also photographed Coyote and Bald Eagles. Deeper into the park we'll photograph Moose and Elk, stands of Aspen trees and many a scene with a Teton mountain range backdrop.

DAY 9  |  Flights home
Another great sunrise if weather permits, and back to Jackson for hot breakfasts. 11 a.m. departures onwards from Jackson airport are recommended. Free transport is available to Grand Junction, Colorado, for those taking my Red Rock Winter photography workshop.
