The trip starts in Lima, and this is a dinner time sunset view of the Lima pier.

An adorable face in Cusco, the old Inca capital at 11,000 feet elevation.

Everything is done manually in Agua Calientes, not unlike most of South America really, and here color collides with commerce for a nice shot.
This lady is a wonderful character seen ambling around Agua Calientes, the village directly below Machu Picchu. Notice the two hats and the bare feet.

I'll start with the 'standard view' of Machu Picchu, but the following images are my personal alternative views . . . |
| |
If this doesn't epitomize the Andean Machu Picchu aura, then I don't know what does!

The Mountain Caracara. |

Another alternative view of Machu Picchu. It's not a stitch or photo merge shot,
but a wide angle which I cropped off the top and bottom. Nowt more special than that!

1 of 3: Terrace symmetry complemented by the thatched building. |
| |
Here the terrace symmetry is broken up by corners, and is pleasing on the eye.

This image shows how steep the terraces can be, and what an achievement it was to build them those many centuries ago.

The last of the Machu Picchu set and not unlike my remote and beloved British Isles in some respects!
The rather cute mountain Viscacha and offspring spotted at Machu Picchu.

This is what the locals call the 'Happy Mountain' and is clearly visible from the Machu Picchu site. |

I got the distinct impression that this lady came to the main square in Cusco every day to have visitors photograph her child and earn a few Solas into the bargain. My shots of the child didn't work out, but the shot of her was more appealing for me.

Plaza de Armas, Cusco at night. It's a busy place, and in my opinion the people and traffic movement enhance the long exposure.
Upon seeing this cat I wanted one thing, and that was the cat in front of some colorful Andean fabrics. I talked to the cat as one does, and got the result I was after. |
