The ancient Provencal town of Gordes is just one of several hill towns we photograph on our photo tours in Provence. We stay nearby, and are at this spot at both dawn and dusk. |

The much photographed Sénanque Abbey. I chose a low wide view, so I had to make sure I had a 'clean' row of Lavender. |
| |

A Lavender close-up. Why is the 'sharp' Lavender head on the right you may ask? Well, we read from left to right in the western world, and our eye naturally looks at images the same way. |
| |

The time is right to set up for a macro shot . . . and then wait for the Bee to return. |
| |

A Swallowtail Butterfly on the Provencal Lavender. |
| |

Not to be outdone, a member of the Hummingbird Hawk-Moth [Sphingidae] family arrives for his share of the nectar. The almost human 'eye' is a little eerie don't you think?! |

A first look at the colorful ochre walls of Roussillon.

A Roussillon study in the late light.

The medieval Avignon bridge [Pont Saint-Bénezet] on the Rhône River, Provence |

Again the Avignon bridge [Pont Saint-Bénezet], but with the backdrop of the Pope's Palace and Notre Dame cathedral. |

Above, Roussillon is noted for it's Ochre colored landscape, and it shows in the local architecture.
At left, Sisteron is blessed with good light.

Symmetry in the Lavender fields of Provence. |

Left, more Roussillon color, and above, hill towns such as Bonnieux have narrow streets, and are a good source of images.

The color of Lavender is carried year round in the many hill towns of Provence. |

A little bit of PhotoShop of work to capture the 'art' side of this image. |

The village church at the top of Roussillon.

A 'Lavender view' to the village of Saignon.

The hill-top village of Saignon. Just one of the many spectacular hill towns of Provence.
|
| |

This church stands above the town of Castellane, and this shot proves that you can have good light other than early and late on any given day. Taken in mid-afternoon, our group waited on a nearby hillside until we got the light we wanted. It took about 20 minutes. |
| |
|

Provence is not only lavender ya' know. We paused on the Provence photo tour for a field of Sunflowers, and the group were composing images that were a bit removed form your ordinary Sunflower shots. In this one I wanted a limited depth of field with a close-up dominating the right hand side of the frame. I was happy with the composition and position of the out-of-focus heads, but then a Honey Bee added the 'icing' for a moment in time I'll always appreciate.

Deliberate blur. Do you like or dislike it? |

The raindrops make this shot, and add an attractive accent to a very photogenic flower. |

An attempt to look at Lavender from a different perspective than normal. |

The last Roussillon study. |

One of the most amazing structures of this or any other age, the 1,900 year old Roman built Pont du Gard. For it's age, amazing, just amazing. |

The French are partial to the game of Boules, which originated in southern England by the way, and is a game also known as Pétanque and Bocce. The classic shot for me is this one of a player waiting his turn to toss, and was taken in Gourdon in the south of France. |
| |

Moustiers Ste. Marie in another spectacular setting. Note the church perched at a higher elevation. |
