The following images represent the typical range of subjects for this particular Travel Images photo tour or workshop. They were selected with the knowledge that all our clients are able to obtain similar images, but should a particular technique be new to you I will share everything I know so that you reach every one of your photographic goals.

As these tulips are being raised to produce healthy bulbs for autumn harvest, the tulip petals are removed as soon as they begin to fade. The stems are then left to help feed the bulb. The result photographically speaking, is a colorful symmetrical spectacle.

It's all about contrasting colors for this shot. When out shooting any subject, look for the out-of-the-ordinary.

A breeze can be your ally or enemy in this situation. One just has to make the most of any given situation.

Talking of breezes, or in this case high winds. I had to use an aperture of around f.8 as f.22 would have given me a much longer shutter speed, and tulips that would have been nothing but a blur.

A macro shot of a tulip's Stigma [Pistil], and six Stamen. Created with the aid of extension tubes.

The trees and mountain were included in this shot for a perspective of the colorful fields.

A selective focus technique using a long lens. Choose a wide aperture, say f.4 or f5.6, and then shoot 'through' other tulips for the soft look.

A splash of color with yellow Aladdin tulips at the front of the image.

Even though I have intentionally blurred the background with a shallow depth of field using a lens aperture of f.5.6, the sense of symmetry is still strong.

The Admiralty Head lighthouse at Fort Casey, Whidbey Island. This trip is not all tulips, and for all the details follow the online brochure link below.

We start the trip in Seattle at the Pike Street market, and conclude the tour with the Seattle skyline at dusk.
