This is an image of the lovely Normandy
coastal area in northern France. Trip 1 to
Normandy, Brittany and the Loire is full, but three
places are still available on Trip 2. Go

Gordes is just one of the many ancient
hill towns that dot the French region of Provence. We
shoot this scene at both dawn and dusk, and the next
photography tour to
Provence commences in July. |

At the opposite end of England to
Stonehenge is the Castlerigg Stone Circle in the Lake
District. We'll be here at dawn and dusk on the
England photography tour which runs in late May and early June. |

Coming up in late May is the
England photography workshop and tour, England being
the country of my birth. This is Stonehenge of course,
but the thing about this shot is that it was taken
inside the stone circle, something that only a
fraction of one percent get to do. Join my England photo
tour group this year, and at dawn on May 24th you'll be
taking your own images among these ancient stones.
For more Stonehenge and England images from previous
photo workshops go

A Wolf photographed this week on the
current Yellowstone and Tetons winter tour. Also
photographed
in the last 48 hours were Elk, Pronghorn Antelope, Mule
Deer, Big Horn Sheep, Bison and Coyote.
Details of the 2011 winter photo workshop to Yellowstone and
the Tetons can be found

Think of Lavender, and one thinks of Provence, France.
This is the much photographed Sénanque
Abbey. Details of the next Provence photo workshop can
be found
here. |

A scene in the English Lake District, and
an annual part of my England photography tours and
workshops. For details of my next England tour go

A pair of images from
the current Tasmania photo workshop. The top image
is of Coles Bay topped the Hazard mountain range in Freycinet
National Park. The bottom image is Dove Lake at dusk
in Cradle Mountain National Park. Details of the next photo
tour to Tasmania can be found
here.
|

A shot from day 2 of the current Vermont photo workshop. The two
Maple leaves are snagged on a rock in a stream, and water is passing over the
bottom of the two leaves. As the exposure was a long 4 seconds @ f.11, the water
is almost invisible, but softens the detail in the leaf.

The 'unsung' Herbert Lake in Banff NP, Canada
looking north. Many folk drive right by this spot as it's so small, but it has a
lot to offer both early and late in the day. See
Canadian Rockies photo tour.

When fog isn't a factor this what a typical sunset on Cannon Beach, Oregon looks
like . . . and there are many more shots among the sea stacks besides. See
Pacific Northwest.

Not that there is much of it showing in this image, but this is the oldest
original cobbled street in England. The place is Vicar's Close, Wells, Somerset,
and the building at top right is Wells Cathedral.

Another image from the current Yellowstone and Tetons photography
tour, this time a Bull Elk.

Park.

An image from a previous
Mendocino coast,
California, photography tour. Taken near Fort Bragg, to be honest it's your
'can't go wrong with great light' type of image.
|

Two images from the Machu Picchu, Peru, trip just ended. The
image above appears to epitomize the world view of Peru, while the image below
is a detailed 'slice' of Inca life dating back several centuries. For details of
the next Machu Picchu photography tour go

Two shots this time round, which are from the current
Cloud Forest and Galápagos
Islands trip in Ecuador. These colorful plates were captured in Otavalo
market, where there an abundance of such images.
The second below is a Galápagos
Turtle mating with a female who is just
visible under the water.

A shot that can be found on most of my trips, but one has to
'see' the image first. Taken on a
European Alps photo
tour it's a style of image I refer to as a 'still life on the run'. I knew when
taking it that I was going to go for this 'letterbox' style crop too.

Oh Christmas tree! . . . a touch of delicacy from the
last
Yellowstone and Tetons winter photography tour.
For details of the next photography trip commencing go

This is the German Alps near
Berchtesgaden. The mountain at left is the Watzmann
massif, with Maria Gern church at right. I flopped this image for
the simple reason that we read from left to right in the western
hemisphere, and when viewing images the eye naturally drifts in the
same direction. Weird uh?! For details of the next European Alps
photography tour go
here.

tour. Go

An odd image in one sense, but
perhaps striking in another. It's from the current
New Zealand
trip, and is of European Red Deer that are raised down here for
meat. Not a 'natural' shot by any means, but interesting methinks, nonetheless.
|
|

Another
European
Alps image indicative of the wonderful serendipitous moments
that travel can bring.
of course, ya' gotta be there, be ready, and compose and shoot like
lightning sometimes!
|
|

An image I would describe as 'Still
Life on the Run', and one day I'll post a series of these images in the photo
galleries section. Taken on a previous
European
Alps trip the formula is to simply 'see' the image, get close
for impact, and then get square to the subject so that it's sharp
from edge to edge.

|

From the current
Red Rock Country
tour. In the Windows section of
Arches National Park, the colors are
actually this saturated at late or early light.
|
|

From the current Albuquerque Balloon
Fiesta. To be honest this image is just a wee splash in a big
colorful ocean that is the Fiesta. For details regarding the next
Albuquerque photo tour go here.

On
October 13th my Red
Rock photography tour gets under way, and this is the type of
image
that clients will be photographing in Arizona's Antelope
Canyon. More images from this trip are
here.
By the way, you're looking at a close-up of water-created swirls in
the rock.

Monument Valley from the up and
coming Red
Rock photography tour in October.
A dawn image with a wide angle, and a small aperture for sharpness
from foreground to infinity.

Whenever it rains on Travel Images
photo tours I suggest to groups that they try shooting through the
van windows for some very pleasing and unusual effects. My
recommended technique is to use a long lens and focus manually
between the window and subject for very abstract results, or on the
subject such as above. A half stop over exposure provides the bright
'high key' feel. The image is from a
European
Alps photo tour

Dawn on the first full day of all my
Ireland photo tours finds
my groups at Malahide Harbour
north of Dublin.
One never knows what the light might do, but in the British Isles one can count
on clouds to make things interesting.

The frost on the young Aspen tree in the
foreground stands out because I placed it
against a dark background. The rest is down to cold morning atmospherics and
being there!
Shot in Grand Teton National Park.
See Yellowstone
and Tetons photography tour.

It was icy cold when
shooting this at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park this morning,
but well worth any discomfort! See
