Photography Tour Overview: Travel Images is headquartered in Idaho, so it’s only natural that we should show our clients what our home State has to offer photographically. Among the highlights
on our Idaho photo tour are the Boise skyline and other historical landmarks, Bruneau Dunes
State Park, Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, the Sawtooth Mountain National Recreation Area, canyons and fast
moving rivers, historic towns, the Central Idaho mountains and white water adventurers on the
Payette River
etcetera. We conclude the tour with a boat trip on a remote section of the Snake River in Hells Canyon.
Our
itinerary . . .
But wait just a moment, first things first! We suggest that you set your camera's clock to the local time, as your images will then synchronize with the times in our included photo tour
field notes.
Day 1 | Boise Landmarks and the Oregon Trail
Our group will meet in the lobby of our gateway hotel in Boise at 12 noon, and
we'll start our Idaho photography tour with the included lunch, and a tour
preview presented by John. We'll make various stops around Boise before
investigating sections of the Oregon Trail.
Near Bruneau Sand Dunes, 1 night
Days 2 + 3 | Bruneau Dunes State Park, Craters
of the Moon, and the Sawtooth Mountains National Recreation Area
Out to Bruneau sand dunes before dawn for the best possible light, then following breakfast we'll depart the Snake River Plain and head for
the mountains. First though, we'll detour for some 'surreal' photography at
Castle Rocks and the
Craters of the Moon National Monument. On via Sun Valley and Galena Summit, with at least one
more detour for the
remnants of a ghost town. We're now in the
heart of the Sawtooth Mountains National Recreation Area, and during our stay near Stanley
we'll explore lakes, and compose the Sawtooth mountain range
behind a series of zig-zag fence shots. A boat trip on Redfish Lake is also included.
Near
Stanley, 2 nights
Days 4 + 5 | Central Idaho Mountains
After an early Sawtooth mountain range photo session we'll coast down the
Ponderosa Pine Scenic Highway to the Payette River Canyon. Kayakers and rafters
provide good photo ops along the way. A Cascade Lake detour is planned, and on to the resort town of McCall for two nights.
During our stay we'll explore Ponderosa State Park, a 'ghost town', and Payette
Lake etcetera. You'll love the Payette lake sunsets that occur as we take dinner
on the shoreline!
McCall, 2 nights
Day 6 |
Hells Canyon National Recreation Area
We'll round off our McCall region shooting this morning prior to heading
onto Hells Canyon on the Idaho and Oregon border. Previous wildlife sightings
along the way were Wild Turkeys, a Black Bear and Deer. Photography in Hells
Canyon will include
the Brownlee to Oxbow section of the Snake River. If you'd like to try your hand at astrophotography
after dark, there will be nothing in the way of light pollution out here in the
'boonies'.
Near
Hells Canyon, 1 night
Day 7 |
Hells Canyon to Boise
Following breakfast we'll shoot the Oxbow to Hells Canyon Dam section of the
Snake River, and rendezvous for a two hour boat trip further up the
Hells Canyon. Big Horn sheep are often sighted on these trips, but not
guaranteed of course. Then back south along the Snake River via Cambridge, and
via
rural scenes to Idaho's capital city, Boise. The included dinner on the last night of our
Idaho photography tour will feature an 'It's You!' presentation of clients in action by John.
Boise, 1 night
Day 8 | Departure day
As there isn't any photography scheduled for the day of departure, your flight home can be arranged for any time today.
